Description

Zionist leader (1860–1945) who worked for the Jewish Publishing Society of America before she founded Hadassah in 1912. ALS, one page, 6 x 9.25, The Jewish Publication society of America letterhead, July 2, 1906. Handwritten letter to "Honorable Mayer Sulzberger," in part: "A manuscript entitled 'Geography of Palestine' has been submitted to us by the author, Prince Immanuel, Rector of the Anglo-Zionist University College, at Jerusalem. It contains barely ten thousand words. The other day, while I was looking up another matter in our minutes book, my eye fell upon the promise we made, as far back as October, 1901, to the Messrs. A. & C. Black, to have Dr. Schechter's book set up with the English orthography. They agreed at the time to read the proof of the book so as to ensure its correctness according to the English standard. That promise of ours went clean out of my head—after the lapse of five years—and the book is two-third in type. All traces of the English orthography having been most carefully eliminated. Can or should anything be done about it?" Handsomely cloth-matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 24 x 23. In fine condition, with a light crease to the lower left corner.
