Description

American heir, businessman, and philanthropist (1876–1927) known for his contributions to the New York Public Library and for the endowment that created the Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic. Partly-printed DS, one page, 8.5 x 3.25, January 8, 1923. Document by which Whitney appoints "James F. D. Lanier, William S. Gray, and Louis T. Haggin…my lawful proxy and agent…to vote all the shares of stock held by me in the Columbia Trust Company at the annual meeting." Handsomely cloth-matted and framed with a plaque to an overall size of 15.25 x 17.25. In fine condition.
