"I have not been disenfranchised for participation in any rebellion or civil war against the United States"

Partly-printed DS, one page, 8 x 9.75, July 1, 1867. Official State of Texas citizenship oath executed by one of the state's Black residents during the Reconstruction era, in part: "I, Jerry Taylor (Col'd), do solemnly swear, or affirm, in the presence of Almighty God, that I am a citizen of the State of Travis, that I have resided in said State for 12 months next preceding this day, and now reside in the County of Travis…I have not been disenfranchised for participation in any rebellion or civil war against the United States." Signed at the conclusion by Jeremiah Taylor with his mark, "X," and countersigned by W. C. Philips. Handsomely cloth-matted and framed with a plaque to an overall size of 16.25 x 24.5. In fine condition.
