World War II-dated TLS signed “C. de Gaulle,” one page, 8 x 10.25, personal Le General de Gaulle letterhead, August 23, 1940. Letter to renowned Scottish Aristotelian philosopher and translator W. D. Ross, in full (translated): “The Association of Friends of French Volunteers has just been formed in order to morally and materially help French volunteers and their families, by welcoming all individual or collective initiatives from all countries. Lord Lloyd has done us the honor of accepting the Presidency of the Patronage Committee; I now come to ask you to be part of this Committee. Nothing can be happier for our Association than to begin its activity under the auspices of a name like yours, attached for so long to the friendship of France. Please accept, Sir, the expression of my very distinguished feelings.” In fine condition.
