Description

Appealing Apollo-era ground support cross-point meter made by the Sampson Electric Co. of Chicago, measuring 4.5˝ x 4.5˝ x 6˝, with the face featuring a meter labeled "Deflection in Degrees." The reverse features input posts identified as "Horizontal Scale" and "Vertical Scale." In fine condition.

Used in banks of four on Saturn rocket engine deflection monitoring panels, these meters were used to monitor the engine deflection of the four gimballed engines on the Saturn V first stage (S-1C). A similar panel, also with four of these meters, was used for the monitoring of the gimballed engine deflection of the Saturn IB. On the S-1C stage, the outer four of the F1 engines were gimballed. For the S-1B stage, of the eight H-1 engines, the outer four were gimballed. As a result both the deflection panels for the Saturn V and Saturn IB both have four cross-point meters.
