Contract between the Columbia Phonograph Company and the The Mercury Theatre, Inc., an independent repertory theatre company founded by Welles and Houseman in 1937, concerning "recording versions of various plays, dramatic and other material," specifically referring to recordings of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" and "The Merchant of Venice." Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by Orson Welles, John Houseman, and Edward Wallerstein of Columbia. In fine condition. The Mercury Theatre produced theatrical presentations, radio programs, and motion pictures, and remains best known for one of the most notable and infamous radio broadcasts of all time, 'The War of the Worlds,' a live radio drama which aired on October 30, 1938.
