ALS, one page, 7 x 9, St. James's Court letterhead, June 21, 1913. Handwritten letter, in full: "What are you doing offering sevenpenny rights of The War in the Air to Nelsons?" He adds a clarifying postscript: "Nelsons won't deal for the short period of the remainder of Bell's lease, but I am ready to come in to a reasonable prospect. I presume you are acting for Bell." In fine condition.
First serialized and published in 1908 in The Pall Mall Magazine, The War in the Air is notable for its prophetic ideas, images, and concepts—particularly the use of aircraft for the purpose of warfare and the anticipation of events related to the advent of World War I. It was subsequently published in book form by George Bell & Sons of London.
