Display containing two tile samples for the Space Shuttle orbiter Columbia: a black 1˝ x 1˝ x .5˝ HRSI tile segment and a white 1˝ x 1˝ x .25˝ LRSI tile segment, both of which are mounted to a presentation sheet that reads: “White LRSI tiles were not intended to withstand the very high temperatures experienced by the fin, underwings and nosecone, and were usually thinner than the black HRSI tiles found in those areas. Following re-evaluation of heat-loading results, many tiled areas were replaced with thermal blanket material which was easier to apply and maintain.” Framed to an overall size of 7.5 x 7.5.
