Partly-printed DS as president, signed “James Monroe,” one page, 13.75 x 9, July 19, 1824. President Monroe grants "John Heck of Monroe County" the "South East Quarter of Section thirty five in Township five of Range five." Signed at the conclusion by Monroe and countersigned by Commissioner of the United States General Land Office George Graham. In very good to fine condition, with light soiling, scattered small stains, and a small area of vellum loss at the fold intersections.
John Heck (1786-1852) married Mary Ann Fogel, and the couple had several children. The family moved from Chester County, PA, to Monroe County, OH, in 1816. Heck was a farmer, and he later worked as a grocer in the township of Malaga. The family worshiped in the local Baptist church.
