Description

TLS as president, one page, 6.75 x 8.75, White House letterhead, June 17, 1953. Letter to Commissioner Harold Keller of the Department of Commerce in New York, in full: “Thank you for your recent letter regarding the television effort. You in particular know planning and hard work that go into such a project, and I am doubly grateful for your approval. I appreciate, too, your suggestions for improving the program content.” In very good to fine condition, with a tape stain, and paper loss, to the upper left corner. The television effort discussed in the letter was ‘Project Candor,’ the President’s plan to inform the public via television and other media about the communist Soviet Union’s growing nuclear weapons capabilities. Keller (1906-1975) served as New York Deputy Commerce Commissioner and Director of State Publicity from 1943 to 1947. He was Commerce Commissioner from 1947 to 1954. He had experience with media campaigns to attract business and tourism to the state. He also worked with industry in developing applications for the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
