Original program for the “Grand Master of Masons’ Award” presented to Harry S. Truman in Washington, D.C., on May 7, 1964, six pages, 7 x 10, signed and inscribed below his image on the inside front cover in ballpoint, “To: Leo R. Marshall, From Harry S. Truman.” In fine condition. Truman was an active Mason, and of the fourteen U.S. Presidents who were Masons, President Truman is the only one to have been given the 33° of the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite. ‘Freemasonry,’ Truman wrote, ‘is a system of morals which makes it easier to live with your fellow man, whether he understands it or not.’
Lt. Leo Roy Marshall (1936-1992), a Wyoming native, was a U.S. Navy photographer. He served from 1955 to 1976, including work on the USS Midway and the USS Intrepid. His assignments included time in Washington, D.C., photographing President John F. Kennedy and his family.
