John H. Pauley (1873-1969), an Ohio native, married Maud E. Shearer in 1900, and they had three children: Kenneth, Ruth and John. The family lived mostly in Youngstown, Ohio, but around 1930 the family lived about 65 miles away in Shaker Heights. Pauley was a machinist who at first owned his own company, the John H. Pauley Machine Company. He later worked for large steel companies, including Truscon Steel Company.
