Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 8 x 10, August 29, 1842. President Tyler directs the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to “the envelope of a letter of condolence to His Majesty, Louis Philippe, King of the French.” Signed nicely at the conclusion by John Tyler. In fine condition, with faint toning along the folds, and a light bend across the bottom blank area. Ferdinand Philippe, Duke of Orléans, the eldest son of King Louis Philippe I of France and Maria Amalia of Naples and Sicily, died on July 13, 1842, after being thrown from his open carriage.
