Partly-printed DS, one page, 9.25 x 8.5, February 6, 1827. As governor of Virginia, John Tyler appoints William A. Bell as "Surveyor for the County of Augusta." Boldly signed at the conclusion by Governor John Tyler. The white paper seal affixed at the lower left remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with toning and partial edge splits to folds.
Bell was raised near Staunton, Virginia, and his family attended the Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church at nearby Fort Defiance. He married Peggy Allen in 1790, and the couple had at least nine daughters and one son.
