Description

Wife of President William McKinley (1847–1907) and First Lady of the United States from 1897 until 1901. Partly-printed DS, signed “Ida S. McKinley,” one page, 7 x 2.75, December 14, 1901. Just three months after President William McKinley's death, his widow confirms receipt of $76 from William R. Day and George B. Cortelyou—McKinley's Secretary of State and personal secretary—the "administrators of William McKinley, deceased...being amount paid by the Knights of Pythias Lodge at Columbus, Ohio, to said administrators for the undersigned." In very good condition, with corner paper loss, several edge tears, and an old tape repair to complete vertical separation.
