(Walt Disney Studios, 1942) Original production cel and matching model color drawing of Goofy from The Olympic Champ, which both depict him using pole vault frames as stilts as he attempts to dodge an incoming javelin. The cel is placed on a hand-painted background of a blue sky, and the drawing is accomplished in graphite and colored pencil on an untrimmed 12 x 10 animation sheet stamped in the lower right, “Paint Lab. Walt Disney Prod.” and “Return to Grace Bailey [Turner].” The cel image measures 8.75 x 7.75, with a mat opening of 11 x 8.75; and the drawing image measures 9 x 8. Both are individually cloth-matted and framed to overall sizes of 22.25 x 19.75 and 21.25 x 19.25. In overall fine condition.
Hired at the Walt Disney Studios in 1932, Grace Bailey Turner rose through the ranks of the Walt Disney Ink and Paint Department to become painting supervisor, then inking supervisor, and finally head of the department in 1954. She held this position until she retired in 1972, after 40 years of work with the company.
