Description

French composer (1819–1880) best known for his popular stage works, most notably Orpheus in the Underworld (including the famous 'Can-Can') and The Tales of Hoffmann. ALS in French, signed “J. Offenbach,” one page, 5.25 x 8, Theatre des Bouffes-Parisiens letterhead, no date. Untranslated handwritten letter to a friend. Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 9 x 12, with a portrait of the composer mounted in the letter's upper blank area. In fine condition. Offenbach founded the Theatre des Bouffes-Parisiens in 1855, resigning as its director in 1862.
