Description

Handwritten lyrics by Dave Mason for his 1973 song ‘The Lonely One,’ unsigned, penned in ballpoint on an off-white 6 x 9 sheet of notebook paper. The lyrics: “There've been moments of despair / There've been times I couldn’t care / I was the lonely one / There’ve been things I should have seen / And without you I’d have been another lonely one.” The consignor notes that these lyrics were obtained by Mac Holbert, assistant to Graham Nash, at Rudy Records, after Dave Mason and Graham Nash collaborated on the former’s album It's Like You Never Left in 1973. Nash co-wrote three songs for this album. In very good to fine condition, with some light staining and creasing. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

Dave Mason has worked with a host of the biggest names in music during his career, including Paul McCartney, George Harrison, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Delaney and Bonnie, Traffic, and many more. In 2004 Mason was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of Traffic.

The consignor notes that these lyrics come directly from the private collection of Mac Holbert, who started in the Spring of 1971 as an assistant truck driver and gopher for the Crosby & Nash Tour. In 1973 he became Graham Nash's assistant and eventually his tour manager. He also managed tours for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Poco, America, Dwight Twilley, Peter, Paul and Mary, and Carole King, doing so through 1991. After he retired from the road, Holbert continued his business relationship with Graham Nash, as well as his friendship with this legendary trio of musicians.
