English poet (1812–1889) who perfected the dramatic monologue in such works as My Last Duchess and Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister. ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7, June 25, 1865. Handwritten letter, in part: "Pray do not think me as ungrateful as I must seem in having never been able to profit by your series of kind invitations...the loss has been mine, as you very well know: pray allow me to repair it." In fine condition, with removal of the recipient's name and a couple of words of text.
