Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, postmarked at White River Junction, Vermont. A fantastic letter in which the famously reclusive author shies away from the public spotlight—he tried to escape public exposure as much as possible, granting interviews only sporadically: in 1974, he had broken a public silence of over 20 years when he spoke with the New York Times to denounce the publication of an unauthorized collection of his early works.
