Hoover, in part: “I have received your kind note of the 27 ultimo, and regret that it is impossible for me to attend your 8th January celebration in person. Neither can I, at least for the present, write any letter for publication, for the reasons stated in my enclosed answer to an invitation to a...dinner in Philadelphia. My health for the present is as good as can be expected considering my advanced age.” In fine condition, with slightly irregular light toning.
