Fascinating collection of three vintage dinner menus from the personal collection of noted American connoisseur and art dealer Samuel Putnam Avery (1822–1904), containing over 120 pencil signatures from various 19th-century notables, which includes artists, authors, publishers, politicians, and businessmen, such as Eastman Johnson, John Jacob Astor III, Julian Hawthorne, Richard Henry Stoddard, Chauncey Depew, William M. Evarts, Elihu Root, Joseph Hodges Choate, John Jay II, George William Curtis, Henry Mills Alden, J. Henry Harper, Charles Stewart Smith, Edwin Lawrence Godkin, George Henry Boughton, Howard Pyle, Charlton Thomas Lewis, and more. The collection also includes 11 other 19th-century menus (some apparently hand-painted), with associated ephemera, all of which were issued to Avery. In overall fine condition.
