Union major general (1822–1901) who fought at Antietam and Second Bull Run. Porter was court-martialed in 1863 for disobeying an order from Gen. Pope to attack but was exonerated in 1878. Sharp 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Fitz John Porter in uniform by an anonymous studio, neatly signed in the lower border in black ink, "F. J. Porter, Brig. Genl." In fine condition, with some light staining along the right edge.
