Confederate general (1831-1922) wounded at Shiloh and fought at Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge. He was instrumental in the publication of the War of the Rebellion: Official Records. Uncommon 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Wright in uniform, signed on the mount in bold ink, "Marcus J. Wright, Brig. Genl. P.A.C.S." Stamped "Collection of Americana Frederick H. Meserve" on the reverse. In fine condition, with a small tack hole to the lower left and pencil notations on the reverse.
Frederick H. Meserve (1865–1962) was a world-renowned collector of Lincoln and Civil War-era photography, remembered for compiling a catalog of known Lincoln images. Much of Meserve's collection of Lincolniana is now held by Yale University's Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.
