Description

American military officer (1836–1881), who, as a general in the Civil War, earned the sobriquet 'Kill-Cavalry' for his gung-ho disregard for the lives of the soldiers under his command. Uncommon Civil War-dated 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite full-length portrait of Hugh Judson Kilpatrick in uniform, by Brady of New York, signed in the lower border in black ink, "Jud. Kilpatrick."
