Description

Civil War-dated handwritten endorsement signed “Geo G. Meade,” penned on a ‘Head-Quarters, Army of the Potomac’ sheet, 2.5 x 1.75, dated July 10, 1863, which reads: “Respectfully forwarded to the Adjutant General of the Army, for reference to his Excellency the Gov’r of New York.” Signed below by George G. Meade as Major General Commanding, and endorsed above the slip by Union General Oliver Otis Howard, who signs “O. O. Howard.” The Meade slip is affixed to the reverse of a one-page ALS from August Rupstein of the 8th New York Infantry, 7.75 x 12.5, July 9, 1863, addressed to New York Governor Horatio Seymour, to whom he requests the fulfillment of his commission as a second lieutenant. In fine condition.
