Description

"Have been trying to reach you about magic fungus" –JFK, Jr. sends a photo, letters to an old friend from Brown University

Three items from John F. Kennedy, Jr., including a candid color photo and two ALSs, the latter two addressed to Hope Epstein, a friend of Kennedy’s from their time at Brown University. The first ALS, signed “John Kennedy” and penned on the reverse of a color 7 x 5 postcard picturing the Tripolia Gate of the City Palace of Jaipur, postmarked in New Delhi, India, on April 2, 1984, reads: “Hoper, I was looking through my address book and saw your name. Thought I’d drop a line. So how’s things? I heard you’re married, congratulations. I’m over here in India for 6 months or so studying and traveling. It’s been interesting but not a wild gig by any means. Your friend Barnhill is also over here studying Indian theater forms. What are you doing in Berkeley – sculpture? Hope all is well. Am going through San Fran on my way home. I’ll drop a line if you’re around. Would love to see you. Take it easy.” The second handwritten letter, signed “J. K.,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, no date, in full: “Hoper, Have been trying to reach you about magic fungus – still around – leave me note if you can, P.O. K #3248.” Last is the color glossy 2.75 x 3.5 candid photo of Kennedy posing outside shirtless, a shirt wrapped around his head, climbing rope slung over a shoulder, and his chest and stomach hair shaved to amusing effect. In overall very good to fine condition, with folds and creases to the note.
