Scarce book with early professional baseball content: The Saloon Keeper's Companion, and Book of Reference For Saloon Keepers, Proprietors of Hotels, and Sporting Men. Containing Jokes and Stories, Laws and Business forms, Hoyle's Games revised and improved, and a Complete record of all Sporting Events up to April 15, 1875. First edition. Worcester, MA: West & Lee Game and Printing Co., 1875. Hardcover, 5.5 x 8, 456 pages. The book contains an "American Sporting Manual," with the "Championship Code" of the National Association of Professional Base-Ball Association, plus the standings and results of the league's first four seasons. Also in this section are descriptions and results of numerous boxing matches, and lists of horse racing results. The first free end page bears the ownership signature of Frank H. Harris, a hotel keeper in Lowell, Massachusetts. Book condition: VG/None, with light edgewear.
