Famed German composer (1833-1897) whose works in the classical spirit, written in the midst of the Romantic era, take a place among the most enduring music of the 19th century. ALS in German, signed “J. B,” penned on a 5.5 x 3.25 postal card, October 23, 1886. Handwritten letter by Johannes Brahms to noted German music publisher Fritz Simrock, discussing his busy schedule, in full (translated): “I am begging your pardon for the moment. What you are asking me is not an emergency, and I am already committed to more urgent works towards other people, so I cannot work for you again now. Besides, unfortunately, I am working on the arrangement of the Symphony for four hands, you see that I am showing good will!” In fine condition.
