Union general (1805-1871) in command of Fort Sumter who refused a formal demand for his surrender, leading to the bombardment of the fort and the start of the Civil War. Civil War-dated patriotic AQS on an off-white 4.75 x 1.5 slip, in full: "New York, December 14/63, God bless and restore our beloved Union. Robert Anderson." Archivally matted and framed with a portrait and plaque to an overall size of 17.25 x 21.25. In very good to fine condition, with several pin holes and a clipped upper left corner.
