Exceedingly rare 2.5 x 4 engraved portrait of Adams by Nathaniel Dearborn, signed across the top in black ink using his full name, "John Quincy Adams." The lower border bears a preprinted facsimile signature. Handsomely double-matted and framed to an overall size of 12 x 13.5. In fine condition, with trimmed edges. Adams is known to have ordered some of his portraits from Dearborn, a fellow Bostonian, around 1842, and other signed examples of this engraving are known but hardly ever appear. These are the earliest known signed images of any president and thus hold substantial historical value.
