Participation medal issued for the international aviation rally held just prior to the Berlin 1936 Summer Olympics. Bronze, 70 mm, 133 gm, by Otto Placzek. The front depicts an eagle in flight, reading “Internationaler Stern-Flug [International Star-Flight]”; the reverse features the Olympic bell embossed with the German eagle gripping the Olympic rings, encircled with text, “XI - Olympiade - Berlin - 1936.” Quite a few countries had participants in the rally, in which pilots flew their planes to Berlin to help inaugurate the Games.
