Description

Influential German evolutionist, morphologist, and developmental biologist (1834-1919) remembered as a supporter and exponent of Charles Darwin's theories. ANS in German, signed “Ernst Haeckel,” one page, 5.5 x 3.75, July 17, 1917. Untranslated handwritten note on a form letter postcard, sent as a response to letters he received. The printed text, in part (translated): "For several months my health and my ability to work have declined significantly. Since I am now 84 years old and will probably only live for a short time, I must use the rest of my life to urgently complete my final work. Therefore, to my regret, I am no longer able to answer the numerous letters, inquiries and requests for support that I receive every day; I apologize if there is no answer." In fine condition.
