Significant first appearances of several stories by Edgar Allan Poe and Walt Whitman in a bound collection of The Columbian Lady's and Gentleman's Magazine, Vols. I and II. NY: Israel Post, 1844. Hardcover, 6.75 x 10, 572 pages. Poe's contributions include "Mesmeric Revelation" (Vol. II, p. 67), "The Angel of the Odd—An Extravaganza" (Vol. II, p. 158), and "Byron and Miss Chaworth" (Vol. II, p. 275). Whitman's are "Eris; A Spirit Record" (Vol. I, p. 138), "Dumb Kate—An Early Death" (Vol. I, p. 230), "The Little Sleighers" (Vol. II, p. 113), and "The Child and the Profligate" (Vol. II, p. 149). Book condition: VG-/None, with some foxing to textblock, scuffing to boards, and some plates missing (including the engraving for Poe's "Byron and Miss Chaworth").
