Four original vintage glossy and semi-glossy press photos of the first torch relay, held as part of the Berlin 1936 Summer Olympics, 9.5 x 7.5 to 10 x 8, all with ink stamps and captions on the reverse. Subjects include: "Olympic Flame borne onwards through Yugoslavia" (Associated Press); "Sacred Fire of Olympia on the way to the Games in Berlin (20.7.36)" (Keystone); "Opening of the Olympic Games in Berlin (2.8.36)" (Keystone); and "The last of a series of runners, bringing the historic flame at the opening of the Olympic Games (2.8.36)" (Central Press). In overall fine condition.
The 1936 Summer Olympics torch relay was the first of its kind, transporting the Olympic flame from Olympia in Greece to the site of the Games in Berlin. Over the course of 12 days, 3,331 torchbearers participated covering the 3,187 km route. Representing the historically important 1936 Berlin Olympics as well as the establishment of the torch relay tradition, this is a desirable group of original photography.
