Desirable AMQS by Johann Strauss on the reverse of his personal 4 x 2.25 calling card, signed in pencil, "Johann Strauss,” who adds four bars of music in three-quarter time from his operetta “Waldmeister,” which he adds above. In very good to fine condition, with creasing to the upper left corner, and old mounting remnants on the reverse. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
Strauss’s operetta ‘Waldmeister,’ which translates to ‘Woodruff’ in English, premiered in Vienna on December 4, 1895, at the Theater an der Wien. A typical example of the Viennese operetta tradition, ‘Waldmeister’ is characterized by light-hearted, humorous plots, beautiful melodies, and lively dance music. Despite not achieving the same level of popularity as some of Strauss's other operettas like ‘Die Fledermaus’ or ‘Die lustige Witwe’ (The Merry Widow), ‘Waldmeister’ was given eighty-eight performances and was much admired by Johannes Brahms, a friend of the composer.
