Description

American jurist and scientist (1731-1799) who, along with John Adams, helped found the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Massachusetts; inspired by Benjamin Franklin and other contemporaries, he asserted that electricity permeates the air and studied its role in causing thunderstorms. Manuscript DS, signed “A. Oliver,” one page, 6.25 x 5, May 8, 1770. Addressed from Salem, a document issued to administrator Benjamin Dolbeare, which reads: “This is to certify to the Administrators on the Estate of Mr. Nathaniel Loring, late of Boston Merchant deceased that I have let the Store he lately improved to Mr. Ellis Gray, which when empty it is my desire that they resign to him and deliver him the Key accordingly.” Signed boldly at the conclusion by Andrew Oliver. In fine condition, with scattered light staining.
