DS as president, one page, 8.5 x 14, May 21, 1969. An official “Order” issued from The White House, which designates Charles B. Wilkinson as Special Consultant to the President. In full: “Pursuant to the provisions of Section 101 of Executive Order No. 11330 of March 5, 1967, I hereby designate Charles B. Wilkinson, Special Consultant to the President, as a Member of the President’s Council on Youth Opportunity.” Includes an official Parker 'bill signer' pen measures 5.25″ long and features a navy-blue plastic barrel bearing a silver facsimile signature and a silver-tone cap. The pen is housed in its original case with gold trim with the presidential seal and Richard Nixon’s signature printed on the lid. In fine condition, with a paperclip impression to the left edge of the document.
Charles ‘Bud’ Wilkinson (1916-1994) won three college national football championships as both a player (1934-1936) and as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners (1950, 1955, and 1956). In 1964 he became the lead color commentator on college football telecasts for ABC Sports. In 1969 he became a Special Consultant to the President on the President’s Council on Youth Opportunity. He was head coach of the St. Louis Cardinals (NFL) from 1978-79 before returning to broadcasting for ESPN.
