Official vintage glossy 8 x 10.25 U.S. Army photo portrait of McAuliffe in uniform against an American flag, signed and inscribed in fountain pen to a fellow American Commander who was captured at the Battle of the Bulge, “To Moe Cavender, with warm regards, A. C. McAuliffe, Maj. Gen., U.S. Army.” Reverse bears a U.S. Army photograph credit stamp. In very good to fine condition, with a crease to the upper left corner. Accompanied by a 34-page autobiographical brochure by Colonel Charles C. 'Moe' Cavender (1897-1995) entitled ‘The Memoirs of an Old Soldier.’ Cavender commanded the 423rd Infantry Regiment during the Battle of the Bulge. His regiment was surrounded by German forces and forced to surrender on December 19, 1944. He and his men were interned as POWs in Germany until liberated by Patton's forces on April 5, 1945.
