Amazing collection of eight pieces of rare ephemera from Janis Joplin's historic career, including ticket stubs, a program, a handbill, and unique vintage photos. The jewel of this collection is an excessively rare full (complete and intact) "Performer" ticket for Janis Joplin's historic debut performance in England—April 21, 1969, at the Royal Albert Hall. During Joplin's flight to London for this one-night show in 1969, she questioned aloud whether the British audience would even know her music at all. It was her first time on UK soil, because her past gigs with Big Brother and the Holding Company never included a tour overseas. All those fears melted away when she took the mic at Royal Albert Hall for a historic and critically hailed concert, praised by the New Musical Express: '...her hour of belting, grinding, and vocalizing against her soul-slanted backing group had created enough excitement and emotion to make the audience forget their inhibitions... They responded by dancing in the aisles, the boxes, and on the stage.'
This special, extremely rare Royal Albert Hall "Performer" ticket was ostensibly created by the venue management for the musical artist, so that they could securely enter and exit the Hall. Such "Performer" tickers are virtually impossible to find, especially in full, complete, and intact examples, with no tears, rips, or separations on the areas of perforations.
Also includes: a rare ticket stub for her show at the Newport Folk Festival, July 27, 1968, headlined by Janis Joplin with Big Brother & The Holding Company, with B. B. King and Joni Mitchell as supporting acts; a ticket stub for Janis Joplin's concert at Madison Square Garden on December 19, 1969; an incredibly rare original program for the very first Quaker City Music Festival in 1968, featuring featuring Janis Joplin with Big Brother & The Holding Company, Moby Grape, the Chambers Brothers, Buddy Guy, B. B. King, and others; an extremely scarce original 3.5 x 3.5 candid snapshot of Janis Joplin backstage with fans in March 1968; an original handbill/postcard for Janis Joplin with Big Brother & The Holding Company at the Fillmore East on August 2-3, 1968; an original vintage circa 1969 glossy 8 x 10 Grossman Glotzer Management Corporation promo photo of Joplin; and a complete issue of It for March 28-April 10, 1969, 28 pages, 11.5 x 18, containing an advertisement for Joplin's 1969 Royal Albert Hall concert (as well as ads for shows by Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, and a piece on Jimi Hendrix). In overall fine condition.
