Description

Interesting insurance document, twelve pages, 8.5 x 14, February 15, 1956. Security Mutual Life Insurance document by which the company "Insures the Life of Milton H. Greene, the Insured, And Agrees to Pay the Sum of Twelve Thousand Dollars, to the Beneficiary: Marilyn Monroe Productions Incorporated...upon receipt of due proof of the death of the Insured and surrender of this Policy subject to the conditions hereinafter stated." The document goes on to outline the policy's terms and conditions. Includes a Marilyn Monroe Productions, Inc. check made payable to Security Mutual Life Insurance for $411.63, July 12, 1956, signed by Joseph Carr. In fine condition.

Spurred by her desire to have more control over her career, Monroe and business partner Milton Greene formed the independent film production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, in 1955. The studio made two films—Bus Stop in 1956, and the Prince and the Showgirl in 1957—but folded soon thereafter when Monroe's once cordial relationship with Greene dissolved after Arthur Miller accused Greene of undermining his wife in order to further his own financial interests.
