After the triumph of Woodstock the previous year, the three-day New York Pop Festival tried to re-create its success in New York City. Unfortunately, the concert proved a bust as half of the star-studded lineup failed to show up and thousands of fans earned free entry when they literally crashed through the perimeter fencing. One of the handful of highlights from the festival was the rousing performance by the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
