ALS signed “Paul McCartney, xxx,” one page, 6.5 x 8, May 25, 1963. Handwritten letter to Carol Wills, a Beatles fan who sent McCartney a letter asking him if he could help her get into a Beatles concert, in full: “Thanks for your letter! If you see our road manager, or Neill our personal road manager, ask them and they’ll be able to get you into the theatre to see us. Hope the fan club goes well.” In good, fragile condition, with overall creasing, separations along the intersecting folds, and a tear passing through the closing.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by the original mailing envelope, which is postmarked at Hull, Yorkshire, on May 25, 1963, a date that indicates that McCartney wrote the letter when the Beatles were performing in nearby Sheffield on the same day. Given the recipient’s Exeter, Devon address on the envelope, it seems likely that she was attempting to get backstage when the Beatles performed in Torquay, England on August 18, 1963.
