Rare ALS in Cyrillic, signed “Secretary of Setanka, J. Stalin,” one page, 6.5 x 9.5, April 18, 1935. A playful handwritten letter in red pencil from Joseph Stalin, who writes to his children, “Vasya,” his 14-year-old son, Vasily, and “Setanks,” his nine-year-old daughter, Svetlana. The letter, which hints at his Communist background, in full (translated): “I send you sweets, which were received by your mother from Grandmother from Tiflis [Stalin's old home where he studied theology]. Divide them in equal parts, please no fighting. You can make a treat of whatever you want.” In fine condition. Svetlana published this letter in her 1967 autobiography, Twenty Letters to a Friend. A seldom-seen ‘soft side’ of the General Secretary of the Soviet Union.
