Description

Exceptional hand-painted 28 x 44 poster for the 36th anniversary of Danceland in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, listing three nights of celebratory concerts on March 6, 8, and 9, which features musical performances by The Aristocats, the Bill Black Combo, and The Escorts. In addition to musical acts, the festivities include “Free Cake for All,” an “Over 28 Twist Contest,” and a “Big Limbo Contest.” The poster features an inset glossy photograph of the Bill Black Combo. In fine condition.

Billed as 'Iowa's Smartest Ballroom,' Danceland opened its doors in Cedar Rapids in 1928; the dance hall was a hotspot for hitmakers throughout the decades until its closure in 1968. This poster, and several other Danceland posters created by artist Andy Jennings, was featured in the book The Midwest Rock Art Collection. Jennings's work has been recognized as art and these posters have appeared all across the U.S. including in Hard Rock Casinos.
