Highly important German composer and pianist (1810-1856) whose distinctively lyrical musical language, especially evident in his keyboard works and art songs, made him one of the central figures of the German Romantic tradition. ALS in German, signed “R. S.,” one page, 4 x 5.5, no date. A handwritten letter to a court musician named “Gottschalk,” in full (translated): “It is very unjust of you to leave me waiting like a fool and act as if you have simply ceased to exist. You know that my tasks cannot bear any delay, so you need to at least let me know where things stand. Either send the Impromptus back to me immediately, or send them to me when you have them finished. I have to send them off early on Wednesday.” In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and soiling.
