ANS in French signed “Picasso,” penned in blue ballpoint at the close of an ALS by his wife Jacqueline Roque, signed “Jacqueline,” one page, 8.25 x 10.75, February 3, 1961. A beautiful handwritten display piece from the Picassos to their beloved housekeeper Ines Sassier, with Jacqueline writing the body of the untranslated letter and Pablo adding the date above, “Cannes A.M., le 3.2.61,” and a short note to the lower left corner. In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed on the front by Jacqueline and annotated on the reverse by Pablo, who incorporates his surname into the address: “Envoi Picasso - Cannes, A.M.”
Picasso met Ines Sassier while vacationing in Mougins in 1936 and, delighted by her charm, promptly welcomed both her and her sister to his domestic staff. She remained Picasso's close friend, advisor, cook, and confidante for more than three decades. Picasso lived and worked in the grand mansion at 7 Rue des Grands Augustins from 1936 and 1955, and eventually retired to his hilltop estate in Mougins, called Mas de Notre Dame de Vie, in 1961.
