Description

Early stapled copy of the Warner Bros. Records ‘Media Information’ press release for Prince's 1982 landmark album 1999, five pages, 8.5 x 11, containing a biographical rundown of Prince’s life and music career, and an array of glowing reviews of national newspapers and magazines. In an unsurprising twist, the press kit incorrectly lists Prince's age as 22, two years younger than he was at the time. The opening paragraph reads: “The Los Angeles Times has called Prince ‘one of the most potentially important catalysts in rock since David Bowie.’ Newsweek says Prince ‘just may be the most exciting new star in pop music today.’ At 22 years old, Prince already has three gold LPs to his credit, LPs on which he has played nearly every instrument, sung every lead vocal, written every song, art-directed his own photos, and acted as his own producer. But Prince is more than a commercially successful wunderkind. He is what Boston's Real Paper called ‘the leader of the pack (in a)...brave new world - without rules or categories or any limitations." In fine condition.

1999 was Prince's fifth album (as a double LP), recorded and released in the U.S. on October 27, 1982. It achieved ‘Top 10’ status on several charts including the Billboard Top Albums in 1982, and again shortly after Prince's passing in 2016. This album featured several of his biggest hits, including the title track, ‘Little Red Corvette,’ and ‘Delirious.’ From the collection of an early Prince insider.
