Uncommon competitor's certificate issued for the Los Angeles 1932 Summer Olympic trials, 9 x 7, signed in ink by United States Olympic Committee Secretary Frederick W. Rubin, and featuring the facsimile signature of President Avery Brundage. In full: "This certifies that Thomas Ottey was a competitor in semi-final try-outs at Evanston, Ill., held by the American Olympic Committee to select a team to represent the United States of America at the Games of the X Olympiad, Los Angeles, California, 1932, and won 2nd place in 10,000 Meters Tun, 7-2-32." In very good to fine condition, with light soiling, an unobtrusive central horizontal crease, a short tear to the top edge, and mounting remnants to reverse. Ottey would compete in the men's 10,000 meters at the 1932 Summer Olympics, but did not finish the race.
