Official unissued 'Diploma of Merit' from the London 1908 Olympics, 17 x 11.5, featuring the facsimile signature of Lord Desborough, President of the British Olympic Council. Printed in red and black, the diploma features the image of a seated Victory, and was designed to be awarded by the various associations controlling each series of Olympic events to athletes who achieved a high standard of excellence without getting first, second, or third in their competitions; it was also eligible to be awarded to distinguished officials and those who rendered extraordinary service to the British Olympic Council in the organization of the Games. In very good condition, with staining, soiling, toning, and a couple of edge tears.
